Cleanup Columbia will be held Saturday, April 9

COLUMBIA, MO (March 30, 2011) - The 15th annual Cleanup Columbia, a citywide trash pickup event organized by the city of Columbia's Volunteer Programs, will be held Saturday, April 9. Already, more than 1,200 volunteers representing 116 groups have registered to participate in the event. 

Volunteers will be along Columbia streets and trails, in our streams and in our parks on April 9 picking up litter. There will also be volunteers working to remove graffiti from public property in central Columbia.

Following trash pickup, volunteers are invited to a picnic lunch, sponsored by APAC-Missouri Inc., at noon at Twin Lakes Recreation Area to celebrate their efforts. 

The city's Volunteer Programs invites the public to participate in the event as there as still several locations that are unassigned. Residents may register online at www.GoColumbiaMo.com or by calling 874-7499. The city provides bags and gloves for volunteers and will pick up the filled trash bags.

Thanks to 102.3 BXR, Columbia Public Works and the Golden K Kiwanis Club who provide special assistance for the event.
