Columbia Transit offers ‘Try Transit’ day

COLUMBIA, MO (May 9, 2011) - The city of Columbia and Columbia Transit will host the annual Try Transit Thursday on May 19. Individuals are encouraged to give transit a try by riding for free, all day long, anywhere Columbia Transit goes. Save gas, avoid parking hassles, reduce traffic congestion and improve the environment.

"As gas prices continue to rise, we encourage everyone to give transit a try" said Drew Brooks, transportation supervisor for the city of Columbia. "Riding for free all day long gives you the opportunity to see how Transit can fit into your everyday schedule."

Fares for Columbia Transit are very reasonable at $1 for adults and 50 cents for students, seniors, Medicaid recipients, low-income individuals and certified disabled. Columbia Transit buses and Paratransit vans are equipped with either a wheelchair lift or ramp, and buses "kneel" to lower the first boarding step. City buses are also equipped with bicycle racks to let citizens combine bicycling with transit.

For more information on Columbia Transit or to view the map and schedules, visit www.GoColumbiaMo.com (search GoBus) or call (573) 874-7282. Citizens can also follow Transit at www.Twitter.com/Columbia_MO_Bus or "like" Transit on Facebook.
