Youth In Action summer volunteer program begins its 10th year
COLUMBIA, MO (May 16, 2011) - Youth In Action, a summer volunteer program aimed at those ages 12-15, is a great way for young people to use their free time when school is out. The program includes a variety of supervised and structured volunteer activities with various organizations throughout Columbia.
The participants in Youth In Action will have many opportunities to give back to Columbia this summer. City of Columbia staff organizes volunteer activities throughout the summer; types and times of activities vary. Participants choose the opportunities in which they would like to volunteer. Scheduled projects include helping at animal shelters, community gardens, special events and cleaning streams.
The City of Columbia's Volunteer Programs will host two informational sessions about Youth In Action and the 2011 summer program. These sessions are open house style; interested persons may sign up for volunteer activities during the following dates and times:
* Thursday May 26, 5-7 p.m. - City Hall, 701 E. Broadway, Room 1B
* Wednesday, June 1, 4-6 p.m. - The ARC, 1701 W. Ash, Meeting Room A
There will also be an informational booth at the Columbia Farmers Market on the ARC parking lot on Saturday, May 28, 8 a.m. -12 p.m.
