Storms Impact Boone County

COLUMBIA, MO (May 22, 2011) - Afternoon and evening thunderstorms on May 22, 2011 have caused a few issues in Columbia and Boone County.  The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has received a handful of storm-related reports, but no widespread damage or injuries have been reported from the storms that moved through Boone County.

Storm-related damage reported to the Public Safety Joint Communications Center includes:

* A tree across Route F, north of Route 124
* A tree fell on a car in Centralia
* A home in the Tremont Court area of Columbia was struck by lightning
* Sporadic reports of power lines downed and power outages in the county.
* Three-quarter to one-inch sized hail in areas such as Columbia and Hallsville.

Residents who have suffered power outages are asked to call Columbia Water and Light at #573-875-2555, or Boone Electric at #573-449-4181 or 800-225-8143.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol asks all first responders who are responding to assist in Joplin and Jasper County to report to the command post at 34th Street and Main Street in Joplin. At this time, the Columbia/Boone County Office of Emergency Management has not received a request for other non-affiliated volunteers from our area.  Should this change, OEM will notify the public.
