Temporary traffic flow changes planned on Stadium Boulevard in Columbia for holiday season

COLUMBIA, MO (November 18, 2011) - Motorists traveling on Route 740 (Stadium Boulevard) just south of Interstate 70 in Columbia are accustomed to the heavy traffic volumes in that busy commercial area. As traffic volumes increase along this corridor during the holiday season, the Missouri Department of Transportation is working with the City of Columbia to adjust signals and traffic movements to help improve traffic flow and safety.

Weather permitting, on Sunday, Nov. 20, MoDOT crews will make the following temporary changes on Stadium Boulevard that will remain in place through early January 2012. The I-70 south outer roadway will become right turn in, right turn out on both sides of Stadium Boulevard. Left turn movements will not be permitted to or from Stadium Boulevard. Motorists on the east side of Stadium Boulevard should use Beverly Drive and Bernadette Drive to access Stadium Boulevard. Motorists on the west side of Stadium Boulevard can use Knipp Street and Bernadette Drive to access Stadium Boulevard.

The signals at Stadium and the south outer roadway will be adjusted to allow for an extension of the left turn lane from southbound Stadium Boulevard to eastbound Bernadette Drive. The left turn lane for northbound Stadium Boulevard to westbound I-70 will also be extended to handle additional traffic.

During the transition, MoDOT will have various types of traffic control in place to secure the safety of the public as well as employees. MoDOT encourages motorists to buckle up, slow down, follow signing and drive safely through the area.
