Painting of Downtown Traffic Box Underway
COLUMBIA, MO (October 3, 2011) - Local artist, Stephanie Foley has begun work the most recent installment of the city's "Traffic Box Art" Program at Seventh Street and Broadway. The goal of Traffic Box Art program, managed by the Office of Cultural Affairs, is to make traffic signal boxes more resistant to graffiti while at the same time contributing to the uniqueness of the downtown streetscape. After a successful pilot project in 2007, the Office of Cultural Affairs launched an annual program. The signal box addressed by Foley will be the fourth completed project in the series.
Each project begins with the Office of Cultural Affairs requesting proposals from mid-Missouri artists. Local artist Stephanie Foley has been selected by the city's Commission on Cultural Affairs and a sub-Committee of the Standing Committee on Public Art for her design concept. Ms. Foley is a long time Columbia resident and practicing artist. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Missouri and works independently as a freelance graphic designer. The honorarium to be provided is $1,500.
