Mid-Morning Fire Damages Home

COLUMBIA, MO (August 7, 2012) - Mid-Morning Fire Damages Home 

 

Columbia Fire Fighters were called at 09:30 am on Tuesday, August 08, 2012, to 704 McBaine Avenue for a reported residential structure fire.

 

Upon their arrival at 09:38am crews reported heavy fire involvement in the northeast corner of the home. Crews performed an interior attack, quickly brought the incident under control and extinguished the fire.  The area of origin was a bedroom in the northeast corner.  The fire was contained to this room with some extension to the attic space on the east side. One dog was rescued from the home and four dogs were found in the backyard.  No one else was in the home at the time of the fire.

 

Assistant Fire Marshal Tim Bach investigated the fire and at the time of this release has determined the fire to be under investigation. He released a preliminary damage estimate of $ 50,000.00. There were no injuries associated with this fire.

 

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor. If you cannot afford a smoke alarm, call the Columbia Fire Department at 573-874-7556 to schedule an appointment to have free smoke alarms installed. For residences who need assistance in checking their smoke alarms, they can also contact the Columbia Fire Department.
