Visitors center moving to City Hall
COLUMBIA, MO (August 17, 2012) - The Columbia Convention & Visitors Bureau will open a new visitors center Aug. 31 in the lobby of City Hall at the corner of 8th and Broadway. The center will be staffed by volunteers who participate in the Columbia Hospitality Corps.
The new City Hall Visitors Center will be open Fridays and Saturdays starting Aug. 31 with plans to be open Monday through Saturday starting in October. Visitors and residents alike can stop by the center to find out more about Columbia attractions and events while enjoying a cup of coffee. Since 2003, volunteers with the Columbia Hospitality Corps have been welcoming visitors from all over the world at the Lake of the Woods Visitors Center on the east side of Columbia. The City Hall Visitors Center will replace the Lake of the Woods location that will close Sept. 30.
The City of Columbia is seeking additional volunteers to staff the center. Volunteer training sessions are scheduled at City Hall for Wednesday, Aug. 22, 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Sept. 5, 6-9 p.m., and Thursday, Oct. 25, 6-9 p.m. Volunteers should apply at www.GoColumbiaMo.com and agree to a background check. More information about volunteering, including an application, can be found on the city's website at www.GoColumbiaMo.com or by calling 874-7499.
