35th Annual Heritage Festival and Craft Show
COLUMBIA, MO (August 17, 2012) - Visitors will be taken back to the traditions of the past at the 35th Annual Heritage Festival and Craft Show, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. September 15-16 at the historic Maplewood Farm in Nifong Park. Organized by Columbia Parks and Recreation, this free festival features traditional and roots entertainment, and artisans and tradesmen dressed in 19th century century attire demonstrating their trades and selling their wares.
The Heritage Festival will also feature a Lewis and Clark Outpost, cowboy chuck wagons, prospector camp where kids can "pan for gold", hayrides and a "Fun For Young'uns" area. Attendees also will enjoy live entertainment including multi-national traditional music, traditional storytellers and returning fest-favorites like the Haskell Indian Nations Dancers, Mountain Man Jim "Two Crows" Wallen, Professor Farquar's Great American Medicine Show and much more. Festival goers will enjoy shopping for handmade crafts.
Visitors seeking to further the experience also can tour the Historic Maplewood Home (built in 1877) and checkout the fascinating display commemorating the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War at the Walters-Boone County Historical Museum.
The Heritage Festival is coordinated by Columbia Parks and Recreation and sponsored by Columbia Convention & Visitors Bureau Tourism Development Program, KPLA 101.5, KFRU 1400 and the Columbia Daily Tribune.
Craft booth spaces are still available for handmade crafts. For more information, call 573-874-7460 or visit www.GoColumbiaMo.com (search Heritage Festival).
