Car Slides off Roadway

COLUMBIA, MO (February 13, 2012) -  

At 8:42 a.m. today the Columbia Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle sinking into a lake near the intersection of Rollins Road and Eastlake Drive.

Columbia Fire Department Quint 6, from the fire station near Fairview and Chapel Hill, was on the scene in four minutes and found the green Subaru partial submerged in Fairview Lake. The driver, and only occupant of the vehicle, was able to exit the vehicle prior to the Fire Department's arrival. There were no injuries. A tow truck removed the vehicle from the lake in approximately 30 minutes.

Since 6:30 this morning, the Columbia Fire Department has responded to seven automobile crashes across Columbia. "Fortunately, most of these accidents today have not resulted in any serious injuries" said Columbia Fire Captain John Metz.

The Columbia Fire Department reminds all residents to drive slower when streets are snow covered. Everything takes longer on snow covered roads, especially stopping and turning. Give yourself time to maneuver by reducing your speed. And, of course, if you don't have to travel when the weather is bad, stay home and enjoy the snow from indoors.
