City Human Resources employees receive certification

COLUMBIA, MO (July 23, 2012) - The City of Columbia is pleased to announce that three employees in the Human Resources Department have been awarded certification through the Society for Human Resource Management.

Human Resources Director Margrace Buckler has attained the IPMA-CP credential from the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR). The exclusive IPMA-CP designation is given to individuals who demonstrate an outstanding level of commitment to human resources in the public sector. IPMA-HR promotes continuous learning to develop the next generation of leaders. Individuals who obtain certification from the IPMA-HR are able to better enhance their knowledge of the field of human resources, build upon their skills and achieve industry-wide recognition.

Kathy Baker, human resources manager, has attained her certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). Jackie Lowrey, human resources analyst, attained her certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR). Buckler, Baker and Lowrey will have continuing education requirements to maintain their certifications.

City Manager Mike Matthes stated, "The city is honored to have an HR director like Margrace. We appreciate her exemplary level of service to the city, and we applaud her for her IPMA-CP award."

"Having both Kathy and Jackie certified gives the HR department a greater level of expertise and increased ability to give great HR customer service to everyone we work with. It was hard work, and I'm proud of them!" Buckler said. "For all of us, certification is a career-long commitment that demonstrates mastery of core HR knowledge and principles and shows we are dedicated to staying current in the field of human resources. Certification is a public recognition of professional achievement."
