Early Morning Fire Damages North Columbia Home

COLUMBIA, MO (March 16, 2012) - At 5:43 am on Friday, March 16, 2012 the Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to 601 Rainforest Parkway for a report of a residential structure on fire. Initial reports to 9-1-1 from a delivery driver indicated that they saw fire on the outside of the residence near the garage area.

Fire crews arrived on the scene to find light to moderate smoke and some fire on the exterior of the home near the garage doors. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and searched the structure for any occupants. The house was found to be unoccupied.

Fire investigators completed the investigation this morning and determined the area of orign was on an exterior wall on the north side of the garage and the cause was likely an electrical issue in a junction box where the exterior garage light was attached.

Fire damage was confined primarily to the exterior of the home on the north side with some fire damage along a wall in the garage. Smoke damage varied throughout the interior of the home. Prelininary damage estimates to the residence and contents is set at $25,000.00.

The owners of the home were contacted and returned to the residence. The fire and smoke damage did not require the disconnection of any utilities. No one was injured during the fire.
