‘Youth In Action’ Summer Volunteer Program begins its 11th year

COLUMBIA, MO (May 17, 2012) - Youth In Action, a summer volunteer program aimed at those ages 12-15, is a great way for young people to use their free time when school is out. The program includes a variety of supervised and structured volunteer activities with organizations throughout Columbia.

Participants choose the opportunities in which they would like to volunteer. Scheduled projects include helping with the Soap Box Derby, the Family Fun Fests, Lunch in the Park and the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.

The City of Columbia's Volunteer Programs will host two informational sessions about Youth In Action and the 2012 summer program. These sessions are open house style; interested youth and their parents or guardians may attend and sign up for volunteer activities Wednesday, May 23, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at City Hall, 701 E. Broadway, Conference Room 1A or Friday, June 1, 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the ARC, 1701 West Ash, Room C.

In addition to Youth In Action, the "2012 Directory of Summer Youth Volunteer Opportunities" presented by the City of Columbia and the Voluntary Action Center includes many other ways for young people to share their time.
