Columbia linemen now restoring power in New Jersey

COLUMBIA, MO (November 8, 2012) - After battling rain and wind to reconnect Cleveland residents' electric service, local linemen moved to snowy conditions in New Jersey. The 12 Columbia Water & Light linemen that volunteered to rebuild electric systems after superstorm Sandy moved to Pennsylvania on Tuesday so they could work in the New Jersey area. Yesterday the crews faced 10 inches of snow in West Milford while they were replacing broken poles and power lines. The linemen reported that an additional 80,000 customers in the region lost power after the storm yesterday and they might be working in the area for another three weeks.

The Missouri Public Utility Alliance in Columbia coordinated the assistance project through a mutual aid program to help utilities during wide-spread outages. They can be reached at (573) 445-3279.
