Avenue of the Columns - Project Update

COLUMBIA, MO (October 4, 2012) - The Avenue of the Columns project has made significant progress around the intersection of 8th and Broadway in the past 45 days. The sidewalk and brick work on the northeast corner of the intersection at Landmark Bank is significantly complete and amenities such as landscaping and artwork will be in place soon.

Work has shifted to the southeast corner of the intersection where sidewalk and crosswalk work is well underway.

At this phase of the project, new, temporary traffic signal standards are being installed. It is important to note the the non-painted galvanized steel traffic signal standards being installed are temporary until such time as the black steel traffic signal standards arrive. The dark colored standards are on back order and currently the manufacturer has not provided the contractor with an estimated arrival date.

The next phase of the project will shift to the southwest corner of the intersection in front of Boone County National Bank.

This overall project around the 8th and Broadway intersection is estimated to be completed around October 31, weather permitting.

During the remainder of this phase of the project, temporary lane restrictions and sidewalk closure will occur. Motorist, cyclist, and pedestrians are all encouraged to find and use alternative routes and use caution in the construction areas.
