Linemen assist with Monroe City storm recovery efforts
COLUMBIA, MO (April 18, 2013) - With the worst of the storms behind Columbia, twelve Columbia Water & Light linemen volunteered to help restore power in Monroe City, Missouri. The work is being coordinated through the Missouri Public Utility Alliance. The mutual aid program allows utility workers to help during wide-spread outages in other communities. Columbia Water & Light pays the salaries of the linemen and then will be reimbursed by Monroe City’s municipal utility. The linemen will continue to help until the work is completed or they are needed in Columbia.
Columbia does not have any power outages as of 10:00 am Thursday morning. There were two incidents of lightening hitting electric transformers during the thunderstorms last night. Boone County Millwork on Paris Road was without power from 6:15 pm to 10:30 pm while a transformer was replaced. Another transformer was hit on Defoe Drive which caused five customers to be without power from 3:20 am to 7:00 this morning. A fuse also needed to be replaced so for a short amount of time there were 50 customers without power in the area.
