The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a hazardous material spill at 4600 Waco Road at 07:02am on Monday, April 22, 2013.

Units arrived and identified a semi-tractor and trailer on Waco Road in front of Kraft Foods, leaking sodium hydroxide.  There was an estimated thirty five gallons on the roadway.  The substance was quickly contained and an outside agency was en route to clean up the spilled material.  Units from the Columbia Fire Department will remain on-scene until the material is removed.

This incident was not on Kraft Foods property and it did not impact their operations.  This substance was contained on the road and did not enter any waterways.

A total of seven pieces of equipment, including the hazardous materials truck, responded from the Columbia Fire Department.
