Columbia Fire Department to Accept Applications for Firefighter Vacancies

COLUMBIA, MO (December 13, 2013) - The Columbia Fire Department is accepting applications for new firefighters. The application process opened today and will end at midnight on February 3rd, 2014. The process involves an on-line application, written exam, physical agility test, and a panel interview. Candidates who successfully complete all aspects of the process will be placed on an eligibility roster that is valid for the next two years. When a firefighter vacancy occurs, candidates are selected from the eligibility roster and interviewed by the Fire Chief. Successful candidates meeting the necessary City of Columbia hiring requirements will be assigned as probationary firefighters to the next available Basic Firefighter Recruit School.

The Columbia Fire Department currently has one vacancy that was created by a retirement in October. “We expect there to be two or three more vacancies due to retirements in 2014 and we want to make sure we have a great pool of applicants” said Assistant Fire Chief Terry Cassil. Anticipated testing days are:

Written Test: Saturday, February 15, 2014

Physical Agility Testing: Saturday & Sunday, February 22 & 23, 2014

Interviews: February 24 -28, 2014
