12/21/13 - 7:30 am - Potential for significant icing - Crews on Priority Routes

COLUMBIA, MO (December 21, 2013) - A full crew with 22 pieces of equipment has been on priority routes since shortly after 2:00 am spreading dry salt to treat and melt ice accumulations on roadways.

Priority routes this morning as mostly wet and secondary roads are wet with patchy ice.

Crews will continue to work priority routes and closely monitor secondary roadways.

Travelers should use extreme caution this weekend as the forecast is still calling for the potential of 1/2 inch of ice and up to 1 inch of snow overnight Saturday.

Ice can be difficult if not impossible to see on roadways. Untreated surfaces such as driveways, parking lots, and sidewalks also pose fall hazards for pedestrians.

In addition to treating roadways, Public Works is prepared to handle downed trees/limbs should that occur.

As with any potential winter weather, we urge our customers to monitor current weather and road conditions via local media and via our website at Comosnow.com. Driving conditions could deteriorate rapidly and become dangerous at any time.
