Morning Fire Damages Garage

COLUMBIA, MO (February 4, 2013) -

Morning Fire Damages Garage

 

The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1785 Prathersville Road on Monday February 7, 2013 at 09:17am.  The 911 caller stated flames and heavy smoke were coming from a large, stand alone shed at this address. 

 

Fire crews arrived on the scene at 9:22am and reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the north side of the structure.  Fire crews made an aggressive interior fire attack and brought the situation under control in approximately twenty minutes.  The majority of fire and associated damage was contained to the interior of the building.  Crews spent an additional forty five minutes overhauling the area checking for fire extension.

 

The origin and cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

 

No one was injured in this event.  Three units from the Columbia Fire Department and four units from the Boone County Fire Protection District responded to this call.

 

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor. If you cannot afford a smoke alarm, call the Columbia Fire Department at 573-874-7556 to schedule an appointment to have free smoke alarms installed. For residences who need assistance in checking their smoke alarms, they can also contact the Columbia Fire Department.
