###

The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 3717 Wayside Drive on Sunday, July 7 at 1:49pm.  Columbia Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene four minutes later and found smoke coming from the back of the home.

Fire personnel conducted a rapid scene assessment, deployed a pre-connected hose line and advanced it to the rear of the structure.  An aggressive fire attack was performed and the incident was brought under control in under five minutes.

The incident commander requested that Ameren UE respond to inspect a gas meter that was damaged in the fire.

Assistant Fire Marshal Lieutenant Tim Bach is investigating the fire and has not yet determined the cause. It remains under investigation.

Eight units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this event.

The Columbia Fire Department wants to remind residents that working smoke alarms do save lives. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button. Replace smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. To ensure adequate protection, place smoke alarms in every sleeping room, and in a common area on every floor.
