Dishwasher Fire Damages Local Residence

COLUMBIA, MO (July 14, 2013) - For Immediate Release:
Dishwasher Fire Damages Local Columbia Residence 

On 07/2414/2013, members of the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched, at 09:19 am, to a reported residential structure fire at 1000 Bourn Ave. Fire crews arrived on the scene at 09:24 and reported smoke an flames coming from the kitchen windows on the front of the residence. Crews had the fire under control in approximately 5 minutes. They then used large fans to evacuate the smoke from the structure. heavy smoke from the structure.  

At the time of this release Assistant Fire Marshal Lisa Todd investigated the fire and determined the  origin of the fire was the dishwasher and a preliminary damage estimate of $ 10,000.00 was issued. She also learned that smoke detectors alerted the residents to the fire and allowed both occupants and pets to exit the structure safely. There were no injuries associated with this fire.
