Public Health and Human Services Offers FREE Tdap Clinic Tomorrow
COLUMBIA, MO (July 22, 2013) - The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services will offer FREE Tdap vaccine tomorrow at a specially-scheduled clinic:
TOMORROW - Tuesday, July 23rd from 4 - 7 p.m. at Public Health and Human Services, 1005 West Worley in Columbia
Vaccine will be provided on a walk-in basis while supplies last. No appointment is needed.
A second FREE clinic will be held this Saturday, July 27th from 9 a.m. to noon at Public Health and Human Services. These FREE Tdap clinics are offered through the department's participation in a statewide mass vaccination exercise, held in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. In an effort to reduce the risk of developing pertussis and to help reduce the spread of pertussis in our community, the following individuals should especially consider vaccination:
Anyone age 11 or older who has never had a Tdap vaccinationStudents entering the 8th grade in the fall (MO State Law requires Tdap vaccination)Anyone who has close contact with a baby younger than 12 months (parents, grandparents, caregivers, etc.)Healthcare professionals with direct patient contactPregnant women (current recommendations call for a Tdap vaccine with every pregnancy, to be given during the 3rd trimester)
Pertussis, or whooping cough, causes severe coughing spells, which can cause difficulty breathing, vomiting and disturbed sleep. Up to two in 100 adolescents and five in 100 adults with pertussis are hospitalized or have complications, which could include pneumonia or death.
FREE Tdap vaccine will only be available during the two scheduled mass vaccination clinics. Regularly-priced Tdap vaccine is available during regular clinic hours, Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please contact the clinic at 573-874-7356 with questions or for more information.
