Celebrate Independence Day at City of Columbias Fire in the Sky
COLUMBIA, MO (June 28, 2013) - Columbia’s 61st Annual Fire in the Sky event on July 4 will be held in the District, with festivities starting at 6:30 p.m.
Flat Branch Park and Mizzou’s Peace Park will be the main locations for entertainment. Man in the Ring will perform at the Peace Park stage and bands Havana Honeys and Just the 5 of Us will perform at the Flat Branch Park stage. The Hickman High School Choir will perform at each stage as well. Other special local performers include Tom Williams performing the national anthem and Nick Rodriguez.
Kids will have their own area at Flat Branch Park, with pop-a-shot, games, and crafts. Jo-Ann’s Fabric and Craft Stores is sponsoring the children’s area.
Fireworks will be shot from the top of the Sixth and Cherry parking garage at about 9:15 p.m., choreographed to music and simulcast on KBXR 102.3.
Fire in the Sky is free and concessions will be available. Citizens are reminded not to bring fireworks to the event, but encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Free parking is available downtown and on the University campus.
Parking will be restricted surrounding the 6th and Cherry parking garage after 5 p.m. and the streets around it will be closed at 7:30 p.m.
Fire in the Sky is presented by Columbia Insurance Group and KOMU 8, sponsored by KBXR 102.3, KFRU 1400, Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Cosmopolitan Luncheon Club.
Special thanks to University of Missouri for the use of Peace Park and our City partners: Columbia Public Works, Fire Department, Police Department and the Office of Volunteer Services.
