Reception to welcome Japanese delegation will be held this evening
COLUMBIA, MO (October 28, 2013) - The public is invited to a reception from 5:30-6:45 p.m. tonight at City Hall to welcome a delegation from Columbia’s sister city, Hakusan, Japan, and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the sister city relationship between Hakusan and Columbia.
Events will include: an official welcome and introduction of the Hakusan International Association delegation; an exchange of gifts; and a ribbon cutting for the Portrait of a Sister City photo exhibit by the Matto Photograph Club. Refreshments will be served following.
Columbia and Matto City, Japan, became sister cities March 7, 1988, while Rodney Smith was mayor of Columbia and Hosokawa Kumeo was mayor of Matto City. The city of Hakusan was created in 2005, when several smaller communities merged with Matto City.
