Fatality Accident 130 Mile Marker
COLUMBIA, MO (October 26, 2013) - FATALITY ACCIDENT 130 MILE MARKER I-70 WESTBOUND
On 10/26/2013 at 1208 the Columbia Police Department received a complaint reference a large amount of blood on the roadway and clothing on the side of the road near the 130 mile marker of I-70 westbound. On 10/26/2013 at 1244 hours the Columbia Police Department received another complaint forwarded via MSHP Troop F reference bloody clothes, a blanket, and a shoe on the side the road between the 130-131 mile marker of I-70 westbound. Upon investigation at the scene it was determined that a pedestrian had possibly been struck by a motor vehicle on the outside shoulder while riding a bicycle. The pedestrian is believed to have been wearing a dark brown colored sweatshirt, black shirt, blue jeans, and boots. A black colored backpack and wallet were also recovered at the scene, which both contained personal identification documents of a 36 year old black male from Columbia. The release of the victim's identity is being withheld pending DNA examination by the Boone County Medi
cal Examiner's Office.
At 0359 hours on 10/26/2013 CPD received a complaint forwarded via MSHP Troop F on westbound I-70 relating to a dead deer in the roadway prior to the 128 mile marker. The male complainant advised he had hit something but was unsure what it was. The complainant pulled over on the 128A exit ramp until CPD arrived at approximately 0424 hours. It is unclear at this time if the two incidents are related.
The investigation and facts surrounding the sequence of events and approximate time frame of the incident are continuingly being examined.
