Columbia Police Department Releases Results Of Sobriety Checkpoints

COLUMBIA, MO (September 30, 2013) - COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASES RESULTS OF SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS

 

 

(Columbia, MO) – During the enhanced weekend enforcement of September 27 – September 28, 2013, the Columbia Police Department conducted two separate sobriety checkpoints.  Throughout the weekend, patrol officers, the DWI Enforcement Unit, and officers working overtime focused their efforts on removing impaired drivers from our roadways. During the enforcement period, the Columbia Police Department arrested 8 intoxicated drivers.

 

            The Columbia Police Department with the assistance of the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Mothers Against Drunk Driving conducted the first sobriety checkpoint on Friday, September 27, 2013 at Broadway and West Boulevard. The checkpoint began at 10:04 P.M. and concluded at approximately 12:01 A.M. on September 28, 2013. During the check point both lanes of traffic were stopped, 531 motorists were contacted.

 

            The second checkpoint was on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Broadway and Old Highway 63. The checkpoint began at 12:46 A.M. and concluded at approximately 2:53 A.M. on September 28, 2013. During the checkpoint only eastbound traffic was stopped, 249 motorists were contacted. The following arrests were made during both checkpoints:

 

8 Driving While Intoxicated

3 Possession of Controlled Substance (2 felony and 1 misdemeanor)

1 Possession of Imitation of Controlled Substance1 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

2 Suspended/Revoked Driver’s License Violations

2 No Operator License Violations

1 Warrant Arrest

 

 

This enforcement period was very successful in removing many unsafe drivers from our roadways. This check point was funded by a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation-Traffic & Highway Safety Division.

 

The Columbia Police Department wishes to thank those motorists who encountered the check point for their patience and cooperation during our efforts to make Columbia’s roadways safer for us all.
