PSJC Accepting Applications for Emergency Telecommunicators
COLUMBIA, MO (April 21, 2014) - Public Safety Joint Communications announced today that emergency telecommunicators will be hired in the coming weeks. PSJC has begun accepting applications.
“The new telecommunicator positions are vital in the assurance of effective response in emergencies,” said Operations Manager Brian Maydwell. “Much like our current staff, the new hires will receive emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance from the public and dispatch emergency assistance. This additional staffing allows us to handle increasing call volumes without sacrificing call answering time.”
Initial training for each of the new call-takers can take as long as six months and typically are fully functional telecommunicators within 18 months. Information on the positions and the application process can be found at www.showmeboone.com/hr.
Funding for the new employees, as well as a new PSJC and Emergency Management Center, were approved by Boone County voters in April 2013. Boone County expects the new facility to open by 2016.
