Extrication Accident on Route B

COLUMBIA, MO (April 26, 2014) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched an extrication accident at 4501 Route B on Saturday April 26, 2014 at 11:19am.

Units arrived less than five minutes later and found a Volkswagon on its side.  Crews worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle and extricate the two occupants.

One of the occupants was able to exit the vehicle with assistance from fire personnel.  The roof was taken off the vehicle to extricate the second occupant.  Both were transported to University Hospital, one with life threatening injuries.

The extrication of both occupants took approximately ten minutes.  Five units from the Columbia Fire Department and two ambulances responded to this incident.

The Columbia Fire Department reminds citizens to always wear a seat belt when riding in or operating a motor vehicle.
