City of Columbia Historic Preservation Commission Sponsoring Preservation Trades Hands-On Workshops

COLUMBIA, MO (August 4, 2014) - The City of Columbia’s Historic Preservation Commission is sponsoring an intensive, 3-day, hands-on “boot camp” for novice homeowners and skilled tradespeople on tools and tips for maintaining and restoring older properties. Workshops will take place September 4-6 2014, covering the following topics:

*September 4--Top Tips and Passive Wood Floor Restoration: Following a 90-minute overview and top tips session open to the public (with time for Q&A), registered participants will learn every step of the process by actually repairing and restoring a hardwood, tongue-and-groove wood floor.

*September 5--Paint It Right: Participants will learn how to achieve a paint job that can last 12-20 years.

*September 6--Window Restoration and Weatherization: Students will learn cost-effective, energy-efficient rehab of original, double-hung, wood windows.

The workshops will be led by renown trades preservationist Bob Yapp (http://www.bobyapp.com/).

Participants may register for all or part of the workshop sessions. To register and for more information, including times and registration fees for the workshops, contact the City of Columbia’s Community Development Department at 573.874.7239, email planning at gocolumbiamo.com, or visit the web at http://tinyurl.com/hptradesworkshops.
