Snow Operations Update - Parking Ban Lifted - Wednesday, February 5, 4:00pm

COLUMBIA, MO (February 5, 2014) -  

The City has now moved all available equipment to focus on plowing residential areas, and crews are working hard to reach every neighborhood as quickly as possible. Many crews have already been working on residential roads and non-priority routes with smaller equipment since last night, but with priority routes looking better, every available resource can now be focused on reaching the neighborhoods still buried in snow. Road crews will also be keeping an eye out for snow drifts blowing back into the plowed lanes of priority routes. Crews are also using a salt and cinder mixer for added traction in some areas as needed to improve safety for customers.

The residential efforts have had a special focus on trash collection routes that have fallen behind schedule due to the winter weather, starting first with Tuesday collection routes, and then moving on to Wednesday, and so on. Customers can track the progress of snow removal in residential areas by sub-district at www.comosnow.com.

The City has been utilizing many departments to speed up the snow removal process for customers as much as possible. Crews from Parks and Recreation, Water and Light, Parking Utilities, Sewer Utilities, and Solid Waste divisions all pitched in to help plow streets, as well as contracted hauling services to remove snow from the central business district.

Now that priority routes have all been brought to at least passable conditions, the parking ban on 1st and 2nd priority routes has now been lifted. Customers can now safely move their vehicles back to their normal parking spots. Columbia Public Works sincerely thanks customers for moving their cars and helping crews work faster on priority routes. Customers have been notified of the ban being lifted on the www.comosnow.comwebsite, Public Works social media pages, and through the subscribed NIXLE alert system.

Customers that violated the no-parking ordinance and may have gotten their car towed can call the Columbia Police Department at their non-emergency number (874-7652) and press zero to speak with the operator and find out where their car was towed.
