Columbia Police Department Special Seat Belt Traffic Enforcement This Weekend
COLUMBIA, MO (February 20, 2014) - COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT SPECIAL SEAT BELT TRAFFIC ENFORCMENT THIS WEEKEND
The Columbia Police Department will have extra officers working overtime for seat belt enforcement this weekend. The Columbia Police Department received a grant from The Traffic and Highway Safety Division to fund the officers overtime for this detail.
The Columbia Police Department wants to remind drivers and passengers to wear their seat belts. Even though most people drive cars now that come equipped with airbags, seat belts are an important part of the cars safety features. Wearing your seat belt helps keep you safe and secure inside your vehicle. Seat belts are also the best defense against impaired, aggressive and distracted Drivers.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA), research has found that lap/shoulder seat belts when worn properly, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger car occupants by 45% and the risk of moderate to critical injury by 50%.
