2013 UCR Data Released

COLUMBIA, MO (January 31, 2014) - 2013 UCR DATA RELEASED

The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) data for 2013 has been approved by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and this data is available on our website at www.gocolumbiamo.com/police.  The UCR numbers show Violent Crime has gone down since 2012 and is at the lowest total index in the past twenty years.  In the violent crime category, Robbery is at the lowest index since 2003 and Aggravated Assault is at the lowest total index in the last twenty years.

The UCR numbers show a slightly increasing trend in Property Crimes since 2006. Burglaries have decreased for the second year in a row although we are still seeing spikes of burglaries at the beginning of the college semester and breaks. Larcenies had a 6% increase since 2012 mainly due to shoplifting and thefts from unlocked motor vehicles.

The population number used for 2013 is listed the same as 2012. The population number will be provided for the 2013 year by the FBI later this year in their annual report.  The population number is likely to increase making the crime per 1,000 people slightly decrease.

The Columbia Police Department in partnership with our community strives to build a safer Columbia and improve the quality of life for our citizens.
