Summer Food Program Begins: Healthy Lunches Available to Kids Every Weekday

COLUMBIA, MO (June 9, 2014) - (COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is celebrating its 14th year of providing nutritional summertime lunches to children 18 years of age or younger.

Lunch in the Park began Monday, June 9th at Douglass Park. The USDA‐funded program, an extension of the school free and reduced lunch program, will run through August 8th. Lunch will be served every weekday (except July 4th) from 11:30 a.m. ‐ 1:00 p.m.

In years past, the Lunch in the Park program has served an average of 100 children each day. The complete, wholesome meals are prepared by Columbia Public Schools and served by volunteers. Persons interested in volunteering should contact Voluntary Action Center.
