COLUMBIA, MO (May 22, 2014) - At 3:25 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014 the Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a commercial structure fire at Providence Hill Apartments in Columbia. Fire crews arrived on the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. to find flames showing from the attic of a two story with a walk-out, six-plex apartment building.
Three Fire Engines, one Ladder truck and a Rescue squad initially responded to the incident. A second alarm was struck at 3:35 p.m., which added 3 more engines and the Airtruck. Fire crews were able to control the fire within twenty-five minutes.
The fire was discovered when a construction worker working on the outside of the building noticed flames from the attic. Workers on the scene had evacuated all occupants upon the fire departments arrival. There were no injuries.
Assistant Fire Marshal Tim Bach I determined the origin to be in the attic and it was electrical in nature. Damage estimate at $450,000.
