SUV Found in Philips Lake

COLUMBIA, MO (September 6, 2014) - At 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014, the Columbia Fire Department responded to a possible water rescue at 5050 Bristol Lake Parkway, the A. Perry Philips Park Lake.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:39 a.m. to find what appeared to be a tan Chevy Suburban in Philips Lake, approximately thirty feet from shore. The water was approximately five feet deep around the vehicle. All of the windows of the vehicle appeared to have been broken and there were no visible occupants. Park visitors stated the vehicle had been in the water for several hours.

A firefighter, wearing a water rescue suit and tethered to a safety line, entered the water and searched in and around the vehicle for any sign of occupants. No occupants were found. Firefighters then assisted a towing service in removing the vehicle from the water.

The Columbia Police Department and a Columbia Park Ranger were on scene conducting an investigation of the incident. 

Two fire engines, a rescue squad, and a rescue boat responded to the incident.
