Opus Development Company Permits Issued
COLUMBIA, MO (September 10, 2014) - With the extraordinary attention the Opus Development student housing has received, the City Council has asked that the City of Columbia notify the public when a construction-related permit is issued. The project is located on the north side of Locust Street between Seventh and Eighth Streets.
Opus obtained a demolition permit to remove three existing buildings, a land disturbance permit for preparation of the site for building construction, and full building permit today to construct a six-story apartment structure. The fees and charges collected by the City as part of building permit issuance total $319,779.55.
Public streets will remain open during construction which is expected to take a year. Construction safeguards require closure or relocation of pedestrian walkways adjacent to buildings under construction and City ordinance requires action for closures in the downtown area that last longer than 30 days. The City Council has approved a temporary closure of the sidewalks and parking lanes adjacent to the project on Locust, Seventh, and Eighth Streets for the duration of the project.
