October Events Showcase Columbias Unique and Spooky History
COLUMBIA, MO (September 30, 2014) - The public is invited to join the Daniel Boone Public Library and the Historic Preservation Commission this October for three special events showcasing Columbiaâs unique and spooky history:
--The Columbia Cemetery: A Historic GemMonday, October 13 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the Friends Room of the Columbia Public LibraryAttendees will be taken on a visual tour of the monuments that reflect a roll call of Boone Countyâs pioneer families and influential citizens. Learn about the cemeteryâs landscape architecture and art, including the fate of the early 20th century bandstand, and much more.
--Cemetery Walking TourMonday, October 20 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.--tour starts from the lobby of the Columbia Public LibraryLearn about the history of cemeteries, funeral practices and spooky superstitions during this atmospheric walking tour of the Columbia Cemetery. All ages are welcome. The event will be canceled if raining.
--Historic Preservation Commission Twilight Walking Tour on Ghosts and Other Scary TalesThursday, October 30 at 7 p.m. Tour leaves from the City Hall Key Sculpture at 8th and Broadway.
Join the Historic Preservation Commission for a Twilight Walk emphasizing ghosts, urban legends and dramatic fires that have impacted downtownâs history over the past 125 years. Be prepared for some surprises and unexpected twists and turns.
