City launches new online engagement website SpeakUpCoMo.com, asks for feedback on proposed projects for August capital improvement sales tax renewal
COLUMBIA, MO (April 30, 2015) - The City of Columbia is excited to launch a new way for citizens to connect with city government. SpeakUpCoMo is an online engagement website that gives users an opportunity to comment on posted projects, vote on ideas, take surveys and submit their own ideas for improving the city.
The site will go live Friday, May 1. To kick off SpeakUpCoMo the City is asking Columbians to help staff and Council create the project list for the upcoming capital improvement sales tax ballot this August. Visit SpeakUpCoMo.com to create an account. Once registered, users can select âYour 2015-2025 Street and Public Safety Projects,â and begin commenting, voting and adding their own projects for staff and council consideration.
SpeakUpCoMo does not replace traditional in-person public engagement; it enhances it by creating new opportunities for involvement and by making public discussions more accessible and convenient.
âOur form of local government works best when more folks can provide meaningful feedback and easily share their ideas, not only with staff and Council  but also with other participating citizens,â said City Manager Mike Matthes. âSpeakUpCoMo is another tool for us to make decision-making more accessible to all Columbians.â
The new service is powered through a platform called SpeakUp, created by Granicus Inc., a San Francisco-based company. The platform is specifically designed to help government agencies gather meaningful and measurable feedback from the public. Currently, Granicus provides transparency and community collaboration solutions to more than 1,000 local, state and federal government agencies across the U.S. and Canada.
