Fire closes McDonalds on Nifong Boulevard
COLUMBIA, MO (August 11, 2015) - At 10:01 a.m., Tuesday, August 11, 2015, the Columbia Fire Department responded to a reported building fire at 500 E. Nifong, McDonalds. 911 operators were advised of a fire in a frying unit.
Columbia Firefighters arrived at 10:02 a.m. and found smoke in the structure and flames in the frying unit. Firefighters used a K-class extinguisher, (specialty extinguisher for kitchen fires), and extinguished the fire. Employees stated they had used their K-class extinguisher, but had been unable to extinguish the fire. The fire did not active the hood system.
One employee was checked by ambulance personnel on the scene, but was not transported.
A representative from the City Health Department was on scene. A dollar damage estimate has not been determined. Fire crews ventilated smoke from the structure until 11:45 a.m
Three engines, a ladder, and a rescue squad responded to the incident. Crews remained on scene for approximately 2 hours ventilating the structure.
