Columbia Fire Units return from Bunceton, MO

COLUMBIA, MO (August 29, 2015) - Just before 6 pm., units from the Columbia Fire Department returned from a mutual aid call in Bunceton, MO.  They had responded to the Better Bean Ethanol plant, which was fully involved in fire.

At 12:51 pm., the fire department sent 5 personnel and 5 vehicles the Reserve Ladder truck, the Foam truck, the Air truck, the Snozzle and a member of the command staff.  The reserve ladder truck is our back up ladder truck.  The Foam truck is a specialty truck holding about 750 gallons of foam.  The Air truck is a specialty truck that can supply breathing air continuously.  The Snozzle is a specialized aerial truck that can pierce a roof and is also very versatile in its unmanned nozzle maneuvering.

Anytime a fire unit responds on a mutual aid call a command staff Officer accompanies the unit/units.

The Snozzle was used to assist with fire attack. The ladder truck was used to help extinguish hot spots in the building, and cool a propane tank inside the building. The foam truck was used to help contain and extinguish the fire in the diesel fuel containment pits.

Units from several departments responded to this scene.  The fire was contained when Columbia units departed, however units from other departments remained on the scene.

This mutual aid request did not affect the fire departments coverage of the city.
