Community Foundation presenting 2015 grant awards on Dec. 14

COLUMBIA, MO (December 11, 2015) - The Community Foundation of Central Missouri will present seven competitive grant awards to local nonprofit organizations on Monday, Dec.14, 2015, at 9 a.m., in the Walton Building community room (300 S. Providence Rd., Columbia, MO).

The grant award recipients were chosen from a field of 29 applicants to the Community Foundation of Central Missouri's Community Granting Fund. The Community Granting Fund is but one of 66 component funds of the Community Foundation of Central Missouri. The recipient organizations were selected by the Grant Making Committee of the Community Foundation board of directors. This is the second year to award grants from the Community Granting Fund.

The recipient organizations this year are the Mary Lee Johnston Community Learning Center, Columbia Access Television, Phoenix Programs, Services for Independent Living, Columbia Art League, Family Health Center and MU's Adult Day Connection.

An addendum is attached to this release describing each project that will be funded in full or in part by the grant awards to be presented on Monday.

Grant applications were available online June 30 of this year, due on or before August 30, and decisions were made by October 30. Nonprofit organizations from ten adjacent, regional counties were eligible to apply. While the majority of the Community Foundation's present work is in Boone County, the Community Foundation now serves four of 10 adjacent counties in the central Missouri region.

Funds available through the Community Granting Fund were augmented by gifts from Paul Land and Plaza Commercial Realty, R. Eric Staley, Carolyn Sullivan and New Chapter Coaching, and the Ben Loeb Foundation Fund of the Community Foundation of Central Missouri.

"We're proud to help these worthy organizations. Each of the winning projects and programs will improve many lives in central Missouri. As the Community Granting Fund grows larger over time through generous public donations, we'll be able to make larger and more numerous grants. And we're grateful for the extra gifts given this year to help make these awards possible," Community Foundation Executive Director John Baker said

Information regarding the 2016 grant cycle for the Community Granting Fund will be available at cfcmfoundation.org in June 2016.
