Undergrounding electric lines could restrict traffic on Illinois Avenue

COLUMBIA, MO (February 3, 2015) - Columbia Water & Light will be starting another electric line undergrounding project this week on Business Loop 70 West. Crews will start installing conduit along Illinois Avenue this week, depending on the weather. This work will take place in one lane of Illinois Avenue so traffic will be restricted. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling in the area. Intersections along Illinois Avenue could be blocked towards the end of the project when manholes to access to the electric lines are installed. This could require drivers to detour around the block. If there are any electric service disruptions during this project, customers will be individually notified.

Electric crews are also installing electric conduit for the Business Loop between Jefferson Street and Garth Avenue during this same time frame. Undergrounding electric lines along the Business Loop has been accomplished in phases over the years.
