Intermittent Website Outage

COLUMBIA, MO (February 12, 2015) - At approximately 11 a.m. this morning, the City of Columbia Information Technologies staff was alerted to a Distributed Denial of Services (DDOS) attack against the City’s website www.GoColumbiaMo.com. Access to the city’s website may be intermittent while staff works to resolve the issue.

This form of attack is designed to make the city’s website unavailable by flooding the site with requests from multiple sources. While this type of attack does not usually result in the loss of information or indicate a security breach, it does result in an inability to access the City’s website and associated services. City IT staff is in contact with several government agencies and the city’s providers to resolve this problem.
