COLUMBIA/BOONE COUNTY WIC PROGRAM NAMED BREASTFEEDING FRIENDLY WORKSITE

COLUMBIA, MO (January 5, 2015) - WHO:Â Â Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services, WIC division

WHAT:Â  The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services WIC division will receive the gold level "Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite Award" from the Missouri Department of Health

WHERE: Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services, 1005 W. Worley, Columbia, MO

WHEN: Thursday, January 8, 2015, 11am

WHY: Women who return to work while continuing to breastfeed need the support of their employers. Their needs are simple: a safe, private and comfortable location at the worksite, and the opportunity to pump two or three times during the workday. Businesses committed to being a Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite also increase their ability to attract and retain valuable employees, all while maintaining a family-friendly image in their community.

The "Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite Award" evaluates employers on criteria for three levels of support: Gold, Silver, or Bronze. Businesses that meet one of the three levels are recognized in their community and statewide.  To be eligible to receive the award, businesses must meet criteria in the areas of policy and education, facilities, scheduling, and resources.  To view the criteria for the Gold Level  award, please visit http://health.mo.gov/living/families/wic/breastfeeding/support.php
