Residents Reminded of Non-Emergency Number for Joint Communications
COLUMBIA, MO (July 1, 2015) - As the Boone County skies light up with rocket's red glare and the sound of fireworks become more prevalent this week, Joint Communications is prepared for a spike in calls during the Fourth of July holiday. Residents are asked to refresh themselves on when to call 9-1-1 for fireworks-related incidents.
9-1-1 should be dialed when injuries or fire are triggered by fireworks. However, since a number of locations prohibit the discharge of fireworks within their limits, nuisance calls should be directed to (573) 442-6131, the Joint Communications non-emergency line.
Remember: non-emergency calls into 9-1-1 lines can prevent actual emergency calls from being connected in a timely manner. That could delay the response time of emergency responders to someone who really needs help.Â
