Girl Scouts learn about city buses on a city-wide scavenger hunt

COLUMBIA, MO (June 8, 2015) - Many girls from the Girl Scout troop 30328 earned a new badge last week by completing a city-wide scavenger hunt using public transportation. With help from city staff, the adventurous team planned a day-long trip around Columbia visiting the library, local businesses, and even the movie theater. All of their transportation was done on the new COMO Connect city bus routes, and the girls practiced tracking the bus's location on the DoubleMap app, so they would know when the bus was coming to their stop.

Girl Scout Troop 30328 Leader, Jill Swearingen says, "We had so much fun. They loved using the DoubleMap app to watch where the bus was."

Teresa White with the Public Works Department says she was excited to help the group plan their event and that it all went very smoothly for the girls. "It was such a great activity for the girls and I think it's important for our youth to have a basic knowledge of public transportation in case they ever need it. I hope that more young groups plan activities like this now that bus rides are free for 18 and under, and it's an incredibly valuable experience for them to have."
