Portion of Texas Avenue closed on Thursday for water project
COLUMBIA, MO (June 23, 2015) - On Thursday, June 25 Columbia Water & Light will be connecting a new 8-inch water line on Texas Avenue to the existing water distribution system. This will require the closing of Texas Avenue between Creasy Springs Road and Jackson Street. Local traffic will still have access to the street but all other motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
Attachin the new water line to the system will disrupt water service for 74 customers for a short period of time and be followed by a precautionary water boil advisory. These customers will be individually notified. Affected Customers are urged to take the following precautions:
Boil water for three minutes prior to using it for cooking or drinking.
Do not consume ice from an automatic ice maker. Remake ice with water that has been boiled for three minutes.
Wash dishes and food contact surfaces by immersing for one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
The water main on Texas Avenue is approaching the end of its useful life and has been experiencing breaks. The existing pipe will be replaced with an 8-inch and twelve-inch water main. The upgraded water line will increase the amount of water that can be delivered to the area for consumers and for firefighting purposes. It will also increase the reliability of water service in the area. The water project is expected to be finished in the fall.
