Youth In Action summer volunteer program begins 14th year

COLUMBIA, MO (May 12, 2015) - With the school year coming to an end, youth are deciding how to spend their free time. Youth in Action is an exciting way for young people ages 12-15 to contribute to their community this summer, make new friends and learn new skills! The program includes a variety of supervised and structured volunteer activities with organizations throughout Columbia.

The City of Columbia’s Volunteer Programs will host two informational sessions about the Youth In Action 2015 summer program: Thursday, May 21, 5-7 p.m. at the ARC, 1701 W. Ash; and Monday, June 1, 4:30-6:30 p.m. at City Hall, conference room 1C. These sessions are open-house style; interested youth and their parents or guardians may attend and sign up for volunteer activities.

Participants choose the opportunities in which they would like to volunteer. Scheduled projects include helping with the Splat! Mud Obstacle Course, Kilgore’s Community Garden, Stream Team and the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.

For more information regarding the program, contact Taylor Fredrick, 2015 Youth In Action intern, at 573-239-5357, 874-7499 or thfredri at gocolumbiamo.com. More information on the program, including an application and a list of summer activities can be found on the city’s website at www.GoColumbiaMo.com.
