Commercial Structure Fire at Paquin Tower
COLUMBIA, MO (May 22, 2015) - On Thursday, 05/21/15 at 2134 hours, Columbia Fire Department and crews were dispatched to 1201 Paquin Street for a reported commerical structure fire.
Quint 3 (Q3) and crew arrived on the scene at 2139 hours with nothing showing from the exterior of the building. Q3's crew proceeded to the 13th floor of Paquin Tower and observed water coming for under an apartment door. They continued their investigation and observed that a sprinkler head had activated. Q3's officer turned off the water to the sprinkler head to prevent further water damage to the apartment and structure. There were no injuries reported during the incident.
The Duty Fire Marshal was dispatched to the scene to investigate. After further investigation the Fire Marshal has ruled the cause of the fire "Unattended Cooking."
The fire was brought under control with one sprinkler head. In a residential setting 84 percent of fires are contained by one sprinkler head. Q3's crew remained on the scene to clean up the water in the apartment and hallway area.
